Reading a report
A signed-in report is a frozen evidence pack for one search. Read what is known, how fresh the data is, which figures are assumptions, where the gaps are, and what to ask next. Crime, news, venue maps, and other secondary context are collapsed by default.
Evidence snapshot
Headline place or idea, plus a small set of observed figures such as businesses in the area, same-industry locals, and an ONS openings or closures rate when available. Source and vintage sit with the metric.
Local market
Population, business counts, density, and same-industry concentration from Nomis (the ONS labour-market and business-count service). Charts show history with a linear trend after the last published year, marked as a forecast.
Macro / economy
Switch between UK-wide and local series where both exist. Units and sources sit with each series.
Place map
- Focus radius is in miles (default 2 mi). Apply updates crime and OpenStreetMap (OSM) layers only.
- Expand the map for a larger view. Zoom with the mouse wheel or +/− keys, pan with arrows or drag, and use Fit radius to reframe the focus circle. Escape closes the expanded view.
- OSM venues, industry sample pins, and crime points are optional layers and are off until you turn them on.
- Changing the radius updates those layers. It does not run a survival or success model.
ONS business activity
Office for National Statistics (ONS) openings and closures rates in one widget, with a same-period net indication. Visual treatment is neutral: a higher openings rate is not automatically good. These are Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR) activity aggregates.
Exports and PDF
PDF, CSV, and JSON download as files from the server. The PDF is a branded Decised document with wider margins, typed metrics, and observed charts (business counts over time, ONS openings and closures, crime categories when present). CSV is a tabular extract; JSON is the structured payload. They are not the same file. Saved reports store the inputs used on the day they were created; they do not silently rehydrate from later data.
