How to research where to start a business in the UK

A practical sequence for comparing places using official business and population data before you commit capital.
Start with geography you can defend
Before comparing rent quotes or fit-out costs, write down the local authority district (LAD) or districts you are willing to consider. Official UK business and population statistics are published at LAD level far more often than at street level.

Separate observed counts from your idea
District-wide sector counts describe registered businesses, not demand for your specific concept. Use them to see scale and year-on-year change, then list what still requires primary research: pricing, footfall, rent and nearby competitors.
